Latest Town of Huntersville – Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

As of 3/16/2020, here are actions the Town is taking to reduce interactions and spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Stay tuned as things are changing rapidly:

  • Town Board Meeting - The 3/16/20 board meeting was held as scheduled and streamed via Facebook Live for remote viewing, which was encouraged to support social distancing.  We will advise accordingly for the April 6th meeting.
  • Town Committee and Advisory Board Meetings - All town meetings have been canceled through Monday, April 6, 2020 (subject to change, may be extended later), until further notice.  This includes all town advisory boards and committees.  Given recent guidance against participating in mass gatherings going from 100 to 50 people and today, down to 10 people at the urging of the President, we want to urge residents to stay home to the extent possible reduce the chances of spreading coronavirus (COVID-19).
  • Town Offices will have limited staffing and no meetings to discourage visits to further encourage social distancing.
  • Parks and Recreation Outdoor Facilities (Parks and Greenways) remain open.
  • Parks and Recreation Facility Rentals have been canceled until at least April 6th (may be extended further).  All canceled rentals will receive a full refund.
  • Park Operations have been postponed indefinitely, from programs to gyms, including the Recreation Center.  All nine of our partner agencies who offer athletic programs for local residents have been shut down as well.
  • Huntersville Police Department – Effective immediately, HPD will be suspending all non-essential meetings and services until further notice. This includes the Citizens Police Academy, fingerprinting, facility tours.
  • Town Staffing - The Town is looking at flex schedules and / or vacation/sick leave for staff to handle obligations associated with childcare affected by COVID-19 and work remote to the extent possible.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we strive to keep our residents and staff healthy at this time.

On Sunday, March 15, 2020, Mecklenburg County cases were up to 4 and a State of Emergency has been Declared for Mecklenburg County.  Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chairman George Dunlap, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, along with the mayors of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville signed the declaration this weekend.
