City of Lincolnton issued the following announcement on February 17.
Plans to add a new parking lot near Court Square are moving forward with the demolition of an unsafe building on West Water Street.
After months of planning, the City of Lincolnton is in the final stages of adding a new parking lot area on West Water Street at the Court Square. The new parking lot will accommodate 48 vehicles with easy in and out access from entrances on both West Water and Church Streets.
The city purchased the former Lincoln Times-News building on West Water Street last year. The lot adjoins existing city property. Inspections indicated that the building was beyond repair and it was deemed an unsafe structure. The existing building is being demolished this week.
The combined parcel is now being redeveloped as additional parking for downtown visitors.
This is another way the city is responding to increased downtown activity and visitors. Parking has become a premium, especially for downtown events and growing nightlife activities. This parking area is close to the Citizens Center, Court Square, and downtown dining and shopping destinations. The site map below is a rendering of the new parking lot with two entrances from West Water Street and one entrance on Church Street.
