The following firefighters have been promoted.
Daniel Green (Training Captain)
Daniel Green has transferred to the training division and will serve as the Training Captain. Green is certified as a level II firefighter, Fire & Life Safety Educator level I, Driver Operator (Pumps and aerials), Hazardous Materials Operations and the Advanced Firefighter certificate thorough the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission. He is also certified as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) through the North Carolina Office of the Emergency Services.
Green completed training and is certified as a Fire Service Instructor to teach the Firefighter Level 1 and 2 certifications, Live Fire, and as a LP instructor. He has also completed the requirements and is certified in all three levels as a Fire Officer 3. In 2007, Green graduated from the NC Breathing Equipment School and has completed training in the National Incident Management System. As well as required training, Green also graduated with an Associate Degree in Emergency Preparedness Technology through Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. He has continued his education by attending Fayetteville State University and will be graduating in December with a Bachelors in Fire and Emergency Services Administration. He is married to Caitlin and they have a daughter, Kennedy.
Whitney Daniels (Captain)
Hickory Fire Department has promoted Whitney Daniels to the position of Fire Captain. Whitney began his career at the City of Hickory in February 2006 as a Firefighter. Whitney has obtained certifications including Fire Officer Level 1 and 2, Fire and Life Safety Educator level 1 and 2, Fire instructor Level 1 and 2, Technical Rescuer-VMR (Vehicle Machinery Rescue), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and NC Advanced Firefighter certification through the NC State Fire Marshal’s Office. Whitney currently holds the position of Assistant Chief at Wittenburg Volunteer Fire Department in Alexander County. Whitney resides in the Wittenburg community along with his wife Sarah, daughters Dixie and Karrigan, and sons Wade and Waylan. He has a granddaughter named Delilah.
Greg Smith (Fire Apparatus Operator)
Greg Smith has been promoted to Fire Apparatus Operator. Smith was hired August 2017. He is certified as a level II firefighter, Hazardous Materials Operations level, and Technical Rescuer with specialty in ropes and water rescue through the NC Fire & Rescue Commission. He has also completed the Driver Operator certification program and is also certified as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Smith has also completed a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Appalachian State University. He and his wife Katie have a three-year-old son, Jackson.
