Many of you have seen or made comments reflecting on a post recently made on Facebook. I can absolutely assure you that the special needs group in question was treated with the same respect given to all our patrons – young and old alike. Remember that there are two sides to every story, and we did our best to ensure that all students present were able to enjoy the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker. It is standard procedure to offer the live feed in the gallery as an option should anyone need to leave the performance space for any reason. As multiple concerns had been expressed by others in attendance as well as by the actors who were unable to hear their cues, this option was presented to the teacher. She did not feel watching on a monitor provided the same experience as being in the theatre – which is totally understandable. At that point, the teacher was told that a refund would be sent to the school. I had a wonderful conversation with the principal of the school that afternoon. We have often hosted students from the school, and we discussed options for continuing that partnership in the future. As to other comments posted concerning our theatre, we constantly strive to make our space safe for everyone. Any reports of inappropriate behavior are investigated. Should the situation warrant, local authorities will be alerted. We have policies in place and strictly adhered to in order to ensure everyone’s safety. If anyone has any concerns, you are encouraged to reach out via our website or by calling our office.Thank you to those who actually know and love our theatre community for your support and belief in the programming and services we provide.Cathy BannerExecutive Director
