Nordlin Dominates, ‘Dads Fall in Extras

Hickory Crawdads issued the following announcement on August 11.

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads led for most of the way on Wednesday night, but late inning runs sunk the ‘Dads, who eventually fell 5-4 in the 11th inning.

Jared Walker put the Crawdads ahead in the third inning with a solo homer to right field.

Seth Nordlin held the Braves hitless until two outs in the sixth inning. He finished his evening after 6.2 shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

The ‘Dads got an insurance run across in the bottom of the seventh. David Garcia doubled to start the rally. Jonathan Ornelas executed a sacrifice bunt to move Garcia to third. He scored as Frainyer Chavez hit a sacrifice fly to center.

Rome got two unearned runs across in the eighth to even the score at two.

With the score still tied after nine, the game went to extras. The Braves managed to score two runs, both unearned, to pull ahead 4-2.

The Crawdads came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the score. Ornelas, started the inning at second base, and Chavez walked to put two runners on for pinch-hitter Jake Guenther. Guenther delivered a single to score Ornelas and move Chavez to third. Ezequiel Duran hit a sac fly to right that Chavez slide in safely under the tag.

The Braves managed to get their designated runner across in the eleventh to score what would be the winning run.

Tomorrow night will be the Crawdads annual Battle of the Bags tournament, starting at 6pm. It is also Tribute to Flight Night. The Hickory Aviation Museum will have planes on display at the ballpark as part of the night’s festivities. It is also Thirsty Thursday, presented by Sheetz and Focus News, which means that beer and Pepsi products will be discounted and Sheetz members can get a $6 ticket. As part of People’s Bank Thursday, fans can also show their membership card for a discounted $6 ticket.
