Western Carolina University issued the following announcement on December 9.
While most offices at Western Carolina University will be closed for the extended Christmas and New Year holiday break, WCU’s Division of Advancement will be open for several hours on the last two days of December to assist donors with year-end giving.
Almost all WCU offices will be closed from 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, although the Advancement unit on the Cullowhee campus will be among a handful of exceptions. Advancement staff members will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Thursday, Dec. 30, and Friday, Dec. 31, to help potential donors via phone (828-227-7124 or 800-492-8496) or by email at advancement@wcu.edu. Online giving also is available by visiting makeagift.wcu.edu.
Monday, Dec. 31, is the deadline for gifts to the university to be counted as charitable gifts in calendar year 2021. Mailed checks must be postmarked and online gifts time-stamped prior to midnight on the evening of Dec. 31. That requirement also applies to qualified charitable distributions (also known as QCD) from an IRA.
Dec. 31 also is the deadline for stock gifts to be transferred and in the WCU Foundation account for the donor to receive charitable gift credit. Most stock gifts take a minimum of three business days to process.
