Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools recently issued the following announcement.
Welcome to the Board of Education Wrap-Up for February 8, 2022. The board held its regular scheduled meeting on Tuesday night. The meeting started by recognizing Schools Counselors for National School Counseling Week.
In other business, the board heard almost an hour of public comments. Most centered on the mandatory mask requirements.
The board heard the Superintendents update addressing the latest news from around the district including special celebrations planned for the month. One is to honor bus drivers and transportation workers during February which is also Love The Bus Month. This is also Black History Month and CTE or Career Technical Education month and Ms. McManus noted that several tributes are planned.
The board also heard discussions on the naming of the RJ Reynolds High School Practice Field, funding for the Wiley-RJR practice field, the Student Code of Character, Conduct and Support, the 2022-2023 WS/FCS Academic Calendar and a COVID Update and Mask Recommendation.

Board of Education voted to continue requiring face coverings inside of all district buildings, facilities, and transportation into March. There will be another vote at the March 8 meeting.
The 2022-2023 Academic Calendar was also approved. Two options were presented to the public and Option B was the most popular and the one approved. Calendar B received 75% of the vote compared to 25% for Calendar A in a recent survey. The feedback came from school personnel, parents, students, and community members.
The first day for students will be August 29, 2022 and the last day for students will be June 9, 2023. The calendar features a student winter break from December 19, 2022 through January 3, 2023. And spring break for students will be March 31 through April 10, 2023. You can see the calendar on the WS/FCS website.
